The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) has historically taken a very proactive and long-term approach to managing its energy needs. Since electricity costs represent a meaningful percentage of NTMWD’s operating budget, NTMWD has worked hard to achieve the lowest practical electricity rates while minimizing price volatility.
With reserve margins in Texas shrinking and on-peak power prices rising, NTMWD was interested in exploring an off-site solar purchase to serve both as a physical hedge against future spend and to promote renewable energy development in Texas. Accordingly, NTMWD engaged Energy Edge to help them evaluate the merits of a solar PPA and understand how to financially integrate this their retail power contracts.
