Natural Gas Weekly Storage Report – 8/13/2026

By August 13, 2026Reporting

EIA Natural Gas Storage as of 8/7/26, as reported 8/13/26

*Working gas in storage was 3,153 Bcf as of Friday, August 7, 2026, according to EIA estimates. This represents a net increase of 36 Bcf from the previous week. Stocks were 25 Bcf less than last year at this time and 198 Bcf above the five-year average of 2,955 Bcf. At 3,153 Bcf, total working gas is within the five-year historical range.

The NYMEX September contract closed at $2.80/MMBtu yesterday, a $0.04/MMBtu increase from Tuesday’s close. This week, September has averaged $2.78/MMBtu, up from last week’s $2.69/MMBtu average. It is trading at $2.74/MMBtu, down $0.07/MMBtu from yesterday’s close. This morning’s EIA storage report showed a +36 Bcf injection for the week ending August 7, coming in above the 30-33 Bcf consensus range and above survey estimates centered around +30 Bcf – a bearish surprise that may limit the near-term upside. Production was revised to 110.6 Bcf/d yesterday on NE and Permian intraday revisions, with today’s early print at 110.9 Bcf/d suggesting a potential revision above 111 Bcf/d intraday. Canadian imports are averaging 5.2 Bcf/d on the week. Power demand continues to hold above 50 Bcf/d as warmer-than-normal weather boosts gas burns nationally, though a brief weekend moderation in the NE could pull demand slightly lower this Saturday before climbing back north of 50-51 Bcf/d by early next week. LNG feedgas is 18.2 Bcf/d, with Golden Pass continuing to disappoint on its ramp-up, averaging under 0.400 Bcf/d over the last week, and Freeport maintenance potentially extending another 1 -2 weeks.
