By September 10, 2026Reporting

EIA Natural Gas Storage as of 9/4/26, as reported 9/10/26

*Working gas in storage was 3,254 Bcf as of Friday, September 4, 2026, according to EIA estimates. This represents a net increase of 40 Bcf from the previous week. Stocks were 79 Bcf less than last year at this time and 148 Bcf above the five-year average of 3,106 Bcf. At 3,254 Bcf, total working gas is within the five-year historical range.

The NYMEX October contract closed at $2.82/MMBtu yesterday, a $0.94/MMBtu decrease from Tuesday’s close. This week, October has averaged $2.87/MMBtu, down from last week’s $2.92/MMBtu average. It is trading at $2.78/MMBtu, down $0.04/MMBtu from yesterday’s close. This morning’s EIA storage report showed a +40 Bcf injection for the week ending September 4, coming in above the 28-35 Bcf consensus range – a bearish surprise that adds downward pressure on market sentiment heading into the shoulder season. Production was revised to 112 Bcf/d yesterday though today’s early print pulls back to 110.8 Bcf/d on lower NE volumes across Equitrans, TGP, EGTS, and TETCO, with intraday revisions higher expected. Canadian imports are averaging 4.8 Bcf/d on the week. LNG feedgas is 19.743 Bcf/d, though Golden Pass nominations were revised down to just 0.124 Bcf/d yesterday – flows have averaged just over 0.3 Bcf/d since mid-August stretch when they topped 0.5 Bcf/d, and Train 2 ramp-up risks mirror the slow start seen with Train 1. Cove Point LNG maintenance is expected to begin September 20, typically lasting three weeks. Mexican exports are averaging 7.4 Bcf/d on the week.
